The book does its job. It offers tips, and beginner advice. What I realised almost straightaway is the value of drawing, drawing and drawing. This allows more growth in my knowledge and skill than an in-depth study of the book. So I skimmed it and felt I was growing my being with tips and inspiring myself to draw.
